<p>Plastic fibers can be produced much more cheaply than glass fibers. However, they also have considerably higher attenuation. Transmission across long distances is, therefore, not possible with these fibers. The main areas of application for POFs include innovative lighting designs and data transmission across short distances, for example, in bus systems such as SERCOS (industrial measured values) or MOST (automobile networks).</p>

<h2 class="">Monocrystalline Sapphire Fibers</h2>
</header>
<p>Sapphire is almost chemically neutral. Its melting point is above 2,000°C. These properties make crystals the preferred material for fibers used in chemically aggressive environments. It is also ideally suited for the transmission of Er:YAG lasers.</p>
<p>We supply sapphire fibers that have been grown from a single crystal using the edge-defined film-fed growth (EFG) process. This process retains the outstanding material properties of sapphire. At the same time, the fiber still offers the desired flexibility. The fibers are available in lengths of up to 2 m and with diameters of 100, 250, 325, and 425 μm.<br />

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Fibers with optimum transmission properties at an Er:YAG wavelength of 2940 nm are mainly used in applications in medical technology.</h3>
<p>Erbium:YAG lasers are frequently used in medicine, for example, in the controlled removal of tissue. Since absorption is too high at a wavelength of 2940 nm, hollow-core fibers are used. The inside of the capillary is coated with silver and silver iodide to create an efficient dielectric reflector.</p>
<p>Without external cooling, the fiber can be used at power levels of up to 60 W. With additional cooling devices, considerably higher power levels can be achieved.<br />

<p>Holmium fibre can be pumped by a thulium fibre laser with direct core pumping.</p>

<p>Fibre diameter control is critical during coil winding.  Our fibres exhibit very high consistency and accuracy of the coating diameter from batch to batch.</p>
<p>In the PM range, elliptic core is available for low temperature dependence application.</p>
<p>Most PM fibres are available in the 125um cladding, but customisation is available on request.</p>
<p>The IXF-PMG family includes high performance polarisation maintaining fibres that are specifically designed for integration into fibre optic gyroscopes on or above the earth.</p>
<p>The IXF-FOCS family of fibres consists of advanced performances polarisation maintaining fibres specially designed for fibre optic current sensors.</p>
<p>Our polarising fibres are designed so that only one state of polarisation is guided along the fibre.  Effectively they work in a similar manner as traditional free space polarisers.</p>

<p>Fibre Bragg Grating mirrors are a critical component used to design laser cavity and are ideal for high power fibre lasers. Our mirrors have been customised to address the specific requirements of high efficiency and laser applications.</p>
<p>Ultranarrow filters in a form of a phase shifted FBG is also available. The phase shift (PS) is introduced within the middle of the stop band. This PS will lead to a sharp resonance peak visible in the transmission spectrum response and features less than 1dB of insertion loss.</p>
<p>Photosensitive fibres exhibit uniform and controlled photosensitivity to conventional UV radiation techniques.  Similar fibres are available with polyimide coatings for harsh environment.</p>

<p>The need for new earth and universe observation satellites is becoming more and more important, with new challenges in this very hostile space environment where components are exposed to ionising radiation.</p>
<p>Space grade PM fibre family includes high performance polarization maintaining  fibres that are specifically designed for integration into fibre optic gyroscopes on or above the earth.</p>
<p>We have developed a unique know-how in the design of optical fibres in radiative environments such as nuclear power plants, high energy physics labs, nuclear waste repository sites and even all the way into space.</p>
<p>For applications were optical fibres are to withstand long term exposure to high temperature, we have formulated a coating package based on polyimides which provides outstanding long term protection.</p>
<p>Polyimide coated fibres can be used at temperatures up to 350°C for short time and 300°C permanently.  Polyimide coating also provides protection against many chemicals and is a coating of choice when it comes to radiation exposure.</p>

<p>Multicore fibres can be used in a large variety of sensing application where the need to reduce the global footprint is also required for cables and connectors.</p>
<p>Multicore fibres have photosensitive cores, allowing Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) inscription and can be tailored to match the exact customer specifications.</p>
<p>Optical signal in a hollow core photonic bandgap fibre is guided in an air core surrounded by a high air filling factor PBG micro structured region (&gt;90%). Added to the low bend sensitivity due to the core high NA, this confers to this fibre design significantly reduced material nonlinearities since more than 95% of optical power is propagating in air.</p>
<p>Photonics crystal single mode fibres at the pump wavelength, offer both low dispersion at the pump wavelength and high numerical aperture. They are therefore particularly suited for the efficient generation of supercontinuum with ti-sapphire and YAG pulsed pump sources.</p>
