The 30% RH card changes color when the moisture content rises to 30% RH. The 10-60% RH card has 6 spots corresponding to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60% RH that change color individually when the moisture content reaches the indicated level. Both cards return to blue when placed in a dry environment.

These cards are especially useful in conjunction with the compartment desiccator, the mini-dehumidifier and desiccant bags . They can also be placed in a desiccating chamber to indicate the relative humidity within the chamber.

Extremely dry conditions can be maintained in airtight enclosures by placing a Compartment Desiccator within the enclosure. These inexpensive, perforated, aluminum cylinders serve to expose the DRIERITE granules to the air and bring about rapid water absorption.

This unit is capable of drying volumes of up to 200 cubic feet. The desiccator is easily regenerated by placing the complete unit in an oven for 2 to 3 hours at 450° F. It can be regenerated repeatedly for reuse.

Refillable Indicating Vent Drier

This DRIERITE Drier (Stock No. 50068) is an alternative to the disposable cartridge. It is designed for use with the DRIERITE drum adapter (#50001). The clear polycarbonate plastic column is filled with Indicating DRIERITE which provides a visual indication of the extent of desiccant exhaustion. The use of stock No. 26810 Lab Unit Wrenches is recommended for cap removal.

Drum Adapter

The DRIERITE Drum Adapter (Stock No. 50001) provides convenient means for connecting either the disposable cartridge (Stock No. 40451) or the refillable vent drier (Stock No. 50068) to a storage drum. Refer to the Technical Data Section drawing. It is easy to place a vent drier system on any drum. Just install the drum adapter in the bung of the drum. Puncture both ends of the disposable cartridge (or remove plugs from the refillable vent drier). Insert the cartridge (or refillable vent drier) into the rubber hose and tighten the hose clamps. Once installed, material can be withdrawn from the drum without being contaminated with moisture. The Drum Adapter (Stock No. 50001) will thread into either a 2″ or a 3/4″ bung. The Cartridge Holder (Stock No. 50003) is an alternative to the Drum Adapter and provides a hose barb connection for 1/4″ and 3/8″ flexible tubing.

The moisture remaining in gases dried with DRIERITE at 25° – 30° C is 0.005 mg./liter, (data verified by the National Bureau of Standards). Air is dried to a dew point of -100° F. Organic liquids are dried to the low ppm range. There is little change in efficiency at temperatures up to 100° C.

Capacity

Condensation or absorption of water vapor by a material in a storage vessel can be prevented by the installation of one of these drying columns in the vent piping. When the material in a storage vessel is removed, the moisture laden air replacing the material is completely dried by the desiccant column in the vent line. Breathing through the vent line occurs daily from changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature. These DRIERITE units will prevent contamination from this source. These driers will protect storage vessels up to 400,000 gallons. The drying units will produce dry air (-100° F dewpoint) for flow rates up to 1200 gallons per minute (160 cfm). The moisture indicator eliminates guesswork; it tells you when the DRIERITE is exhausted. The glass window has a few ounces of Indicating DRIERITE behind it. The Indicating DRIERITE turns from blue to pink when the drier is exhausted. The drier contains the highly efficient Du-Cal DRIERITE. DRIERITE Storage Tank Vent Driers are efficient and economical to operate. Refer to the Technical Data section of this catalog for information on sizing a Vent Drier.

VENT DRIERS, Window Placement

Standard driers have the sight glass window and the connection for the storage tank at the top of the drier. Low window driers ( – LW behind model number) have the sight glass and the connection for the storage tank at the bottom of the driers. See Technical drawings and Installation drawings.

Assembly

Fill the DRIERITE^® Vent Drier to just above the sight glass window with 4 mesh Du-Cal DRIERITE^®. Then hollow out a small pocket behind the window and place a few ounces of 4 mesh Indicating DRIERITE^® against the window. Quickly fill the tower with Du-Cal DRIERITE^® to a point 1 inch below the top outlet connection.

The upper connection of the drier is the outlet on standard driers and is connected to the storage tank through a vent line using a union or a flange.

Regeneration

Indicating DRIERITE is impregnated with cobalt chloride. Indicating DRIERITE is blue when dry and changes to pink upon absorption of moisture. The color change is pronounced and clearly visible. This makes Indicating DRIERITE valuable when it is necessary to know with certainty that dryness is being maintained and to signal when the drying agent should be replaced. It has the same efficiency as Regular DRIERITE, and somewhat greater capacity due to the desiccating effect of the cobalt chloride.* It can be regenerated repeatedly for reuse.
