Cost-effective, polymer optical fibers for lighting and signal transmission available as bare fibers and cable assemblies
POFs – Cost-Effective Alternative
Plastic fibers can be produced much more cheaply than glass fibers. However, they also have considerably higher attenuation. Transmission across long distances is, therefore, not possible with these fibers. The main areas of application for POFs include innovative lighting designs and data transmission across short distances, for example, in bus systems such as SERCOS (industrial measured values) or MOST (automobile networks).
PG Fibers
PG fibers are the most widely used polymer optical fibers. Their numerical aperture is usually 0.50. The main applications of these fibers include data transmission, illumination, and sensor technology.
PF Fibers
With their good transmission properties, PF fibers are ideal for transmitting data across short distances. Even though they have a comparatively low numerical aperture, PF fibers are often used for illumination solutions.
